How to Get a Dog to Stop Barking All of the Time With Citronella

Some dogs only bark when the mailman shows up or when someone knocks on the door. Other dogs barks incessantly all day. Some even seem to want to hear the sound of their own bark all night as well. Listening to a dog bark constantly is not fun for the owner or the neighbors. The constant barking can be stopped using citronella. Citronella won't harm the dog, which makes it a more humane alternative to a shock bark collar or debarking surgery.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the correct batteries in the citronella collar. Unscrew the battery cover, load the batteries and screw the cover back in place.

    • 2

Fill the citronella cartridge, if necessary, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Most will have a nozzle on the citronella bottle to push into a small hole on the cartridge. Other brands will just have replacement cartridges.

    • 3

Adjust the citronella collar to fit your dog's neck. It should be snug, but not too tight.

    • 4

Place the collar on your dog so that the area the citronella will spray from points toward your dog's face.

    • 5

Turn on the citronella bark collar. Slide the on switch from one side to the other, or press a button to turn the collar on. The citronella collar will now spray your dog in the face with citronella every time it barks. Dogs dislike the taste and smell of the citronella, so the barking will eventually cease.

Maintain the bark collar. Refill the cartridge as necessary, or replace the cartridges when you notice the citronella doesn't seem to be spraying. Replace batteries as necessary.
