Training Your New Puppy
Be consistent. Make sure that everyone in your family agrees to the puppy's rules and will follow through with training. If some family members give different commands or allow the puppy to do things like jumping or biting, the puppy will get confused and will be more difficult to train.
Exercise patience. Puppies are like human toddlers—they need lots of repetition and encouragement to learn new skills and behaviors. Stay calm when working with your new puppy. If you are calm, they are more likely to remain calm as well.
Be repetitious. During a training session, work on one skill at a time and repeat it over and over again. Repetition is how a dog learns a new skill.
Reward your puppy. When your dog follows through on a command or is behaving the way you want them to, reward then. Verbal praise, petting or a small bite of kibble will reinforce the good behavior.
How to Train a Puppy Fast
Adding a puppy to the family is a wonderful experience. But now that you have the puppy at home, it is time to train it—fast. Puppies are a lot of fun and are adorable, but they are a lot of work in the beginning. Taking the time to train your puppy from the start will help develop a lifelong, enjoyable relationship.
