Things You'll Need
- Crate
- Partition board
Instructions
Buy a crate that will accommodate a full grown peekapoo. If you are crate training a puppy, use a piece of board to make a partition so that the peekapoo does not have full access to the crate. She will need enough room to stretch out as she sleeps and to stand up. As the dog grows or becomes housebroken, you can remove the partition and allow the dog full use of the crate.
Place the peekapoo in the crate in a room where you will be sitting so that she can see you. When she wakes up from her nap, pick her up and take her outside to the lawn. Continue to tell her to “Go potty” until she finally goes. Give her praise by saying “Good girl” and petting.
Keep him out for playtime (only if you will keep an eye on him) when you come back inside. When playtime is over, put him back in his crate for a nap. Do not play with the puppy outside when house training. The puppy can confuse the outside with play time instead of potty time. After house training is done, then it can be playtime outside after he relieves himself.
Feed the peekapoo in the crate or outside of it. As soon as she is done eating, take her outside and use the command so she knows that you want her to relieve herself outside after eating or drinking water.
Continue steps 2 through 4 until the peekapoo is housetrained, which means that she can go longer without needing to go outside to relieve herself and can be left outside the crate for longer periods. She may have an accident or two, but if she does and you see it, send her outside while directing her to “Go potty” outside. Do not harshly punish her. If you don’t see her have the accident, don’t say anything. You must catch her having the accident in order to scold her. If she continues to have accidents, keep her in the crate and continue house training.
