How to Put on a Puppy Harness

Puppy harnesses are used in place of a collar and leash to avoid pulling on the dog’s throat when going for walks or when tied up. They are designed to go around the front legs of the dog across the chest and provide a very strong hold on your pet, without putting stress on them. Putting on a puppy harness is relatively simple, provided you can get your excited pooch to sit still for long enough.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit behind your puppy with him between your knees to stabilize him and keep him from jumping about. Give a dog treat if this will help keep him still.

    • 2

Put the neck loop of the harness over your puppy’s head, then one leg through the leg hole at the front of the harness. The belly harness will be hanging loosely at this point, attached to the strap that forms the leg holes.

    • 3

Pull the two sides of the belly harness up to meet at the beck of your puppy’s neck and clip the straps together using the harness clips. Give another treat and let your dog up.
