Dog Training Schools in Puerto Rico

Despite Puerto Rico’s reputation for having a large number of homeless street dogs, many people on the island care about and provide excellent homes to their dogs. Trainers offer programs and classes that encourage people to teach their dogs good behavior, so that these dogs can stay with their families forever. Well-behaved, loved and cared-for dogs are less likely to end up in already overcrowded animal shelters or wandering the streets.
  1. Educan

    • Educan Dog Training School offers specialized education for dogs of all ages. Trainer Peter M. Anibarro has coached dogs for more than 11 years, since graduating from The Tom Rose School in Saint Louis, Missouri. In 2009, he opened Educan, which is dedicated to training dogs and educating people about dogs on the island of Puerto Rico.

The training school offers behavior assessments for your pet at no cost, to help you determine in which classes you and your dog should enroll.

Educan’s mission is to educate people about being responsible pet owners and to provide the tools necessary for pet owners to teach a dog or change its behavior so that it will be well-suited to live in a home and a community. The school's vision is: “Que todos los canes sean educados para convivir con humanos, y que nunca más terminen siendo soltados en la calle o en un refugio,” which, roughly translated, means, that all dogs will be educated to coexist with human beings, and that never again will they end up in a shelter or released in the street.

    Puerto Rico Dogs

    • In basic dog obedience classes, dogs learn to sit, stay and lie down.

Sheyla Gutierrez, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, created her school, Puerto Rico Dogs, to help dog owners acquire the tools and knowledge necessary to use positive training methods when teaching puppies and dogs, especially in dealing with difficult-to-control pet behaviors.

The school's courses include private and group lessons in Basic Dog Obedience, which covers basic behaviors, such as sitting, lying down, leash walking, heeling, staying and coming when called. Puerto Rico Dogs also offers Canine Good Citizen training and testing, as well as Therapy Dog training and certification.

Private dog-training sessions take place at the school or in your home. Puerto Rico Dogs offers a unique private four-lesson "House Training" program to evaluate your dog at home and to then work on problems such as potty training and chewing on furniture or household objects.
