How to Train a Beagle With Electronic Collars

Electronic collars may seem like a cruel means of training, but the shock delivered can be adjusted to a low power that is no more cruel than a tap on the nose or an old fashioned newspaper spanking. Electronic collars are an effective and quick means of training. Some bad behaviors need to be eliminated quickly for either safety of humans or the sake of silence or a clean house. Using an electronic collar can be the solution to these problems.

Place the collar on the beagle and start to adjust the power of the collar. Adjust the power by observing the beagle's reaction to the level of shock. A kind level to keep the shock at is when the beagle gives a small reaction, as if being bitten by a flea or giving a slight twitch or jerk.

    • 2

Press the button to shock the beagle when it performs a negative behavior such as barking, eating from the garbage or biting a human. Pair the shock with a firm "no" or other word.

    • 3

Continue to shock and say "no" to the dog when it performs a bad behavior. When the dog no longer performs the behavior leave the collar on for several days. Taking the collar off immediately may allow the dog to associate the punishment with the collar, which may cause it to think it can perform the bad behavior when the collar is off.

Remove the collar and continue to use the "no" with bad behaviors. Since the "no" was associated with the electronic collar, it now carries more weight.
