Barking and Aggression
Make sure there is no tension in the home that can cause aggression in the poodle. Toy poodles are sensitive to stress, tension, anger and loud noises. Families with children might have a problem due to the loud noises and hyper behavior of children. The aggression and barking might be a reaction to the stressful environment, in which case the family needs to work on a quieter environment.
Check on the reason for the barking. Most dogs will bark with for a reason, so it might be that the poodle is trying to get attention for something. Find out what the poodle is barking for and give him a sign, such as a pat on the head, to let him know that he can stop barking.
Give a command of "quiet", "enough," or "silence" to quiet the barking. Then hold a hand over the top of the snout until the dog stops barking. Immediately after the dog stops barking, give a reward like a treat or a word of praise. Make sure when giving the command that it is said in a calm and firm voice, but is not loud. Loud noises can startle a toy poodle.
Socialize the toy poodle. In most cases, toy poodles are social creatures, but when they have not been around other dogs, this can lead to the aggressive behavior and barking. Socializing should be slow, starting with the dogs away from each other and with the owner stopping the toy poodle from barking with a command. Gradually bring the dogs closer until the poodle gets used to the scent and stops barking at the sight of the other dog.
Stay with the toy poodle when outdoors. Toy poodles are tiny dogs and they can be easily frightened, startled or quick to bark. An owner of a toy poodle should always be with the dog to silence the barking immediately in case other dogs, animals or people walk by or startle the poodle.
How to Stop a Toy Poodle From Barking & Wanting to Fight Other Dogs
Toy poodles are tiny, athletic dogs that can easily be hyperactive and will bark at anything. Though these tiny dogs are often justified in barking, as they bark to alert an owner to strangers or problems, when the toy poodle turns from normal barking behavior to excessive barking and aggression toward other dogs, it can be a problem. These tiny dogs will lose in a fight against larger dogs and can be annoying when they behave in this manner.
