      Buy a plastic crate for your dog that is the correct size. It should be just large enough to fit a bed for the dog. Puppies do not like to soil their beds because they do not like to sleep in the mess.

      Place a blanket and a chew toy inside the crate for the puppy.

      Place treats in the back of crate for the puppy to find, to get it acclimated to the crate.

      Place your puppy's dinner bowl in the back of the crate so that your dog has to go into the crate to eat.

      Tell your dog to "Go to bed" and then throw a treat into its crate. Repeat this exercise several times to help your puppy get used to the crate.
