Homemade Vibrating Collars for Dog Training

Training a dog with a vibrating collar ensures that you do not need vocal commands to communicate with your dog. A special-needs dog who is deaf may benefit from a vibrating collar, as it tells him when you need his attention, and it allows you to communicate via tactile and visual senses. When working with a non-special needs dog, a vibrating collar can be used much like a clicker, and much less obtrusively.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the nylon collar and size it to fit your dog's neck. Instead of the normal two-finger space between the collar and your dog's neck, leave a three-finger space.

    • 2

Cut two rectangles out of the fabric, each 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. Turn the fabric inside out, and sew together three edges to make a pouch.

    • 3

Turn the pouch right-side out, and slip the vibrating bullet inside. Sew the fourth edge closed.

    • 4

Attach the pouch to the inside of the collar by wrapping the edges of the pouch around to the outside of the collar and sewing them in place. Ensure the bullet is on the inside of the collar.
