How to Make a Boxer Dog Bark

Dogs will bark, or speak, for several reasons. There may be a stranger at the door, your boxer may be alerting you to an unseen danger, or it may simply be bored. This unwanted barking can actually be controlled by teaching your boxer to speak on command. This "trick" will help your dog learn that it can only vocalize when commanded by its owner, not when the dog sees fit. This trick can be taught in a few days, without the assistance of a professional trainer.

Instructions

    • 1

Call the boxer to you. If the dog does not respond to its name, bring the dog to you and place it in front of you.

    • 2

Place a treat in front of the dog's face and utter the command "speak" with a higher pitched, happy sounding voice. Wait for the boxer to bark and give it the treat and a lot of praise immediately after this happens.

Repeat this process, remembering to wait for the boxer to bark before it is given the treat. Eventually, the dog will bark when it is given the command "speak" without the need for any treats.
