Dog Training Collars With Beepers

Training collars with beepers are the modern way to train your hunting dogs and keep up with them in the field. In the past, hunters used one collar for training and a bell system to keep track of their dogs when bird hunting. The bell would sound as the dog was moving, allowing the hunter to track him. However, when the dog was stationary, he would be difficult to find. Adding beepers to training collars eliminated this problem and allowed the hunter to train and find his dogs with one simple tool.
  1. Identification

    • Dog training collars with beepers are electronic and have transmitters that allow hunters to operate the collar using a remote control. When the beeper is turned off, the collar works like any other training collar. When the beeper is turned on, the motion sensor is activated, allowing the hunter to keep better track of the bird dogs while in the field.

    How They Work

    • A motion sensor in the collar detects your dog's movement and sends a signal to the beeper, which changes the frequency of the beep. When the collar is set in the run/point mode, it will beep once every few seconds. When the dog is in the stationary position, it will beep once every second to indicate the bird dog has found its target.

    Right Design

    • Choosing the right design will depend on the type of hunting you do and how many dogs you take out at once. For example, if you have several hunting dogs that you take out together, then you may want to purchase collars with multiple beep settings. Changing the sound that is emitted from each collar will help you which dog is where. If you have only one or two dogs, then a simpler design should suffice.

The type of terrain you hunt most often in will make a difference as well. If you hunt mostly in dense areas and at long ranges, you'll need a design that has long-range sensors. If you stay close and the area is mostly open, a short-range sensor should work fine.

    Benefits

    • Hunters need well-trained dogs that follow commands in order to be successful. A benefit to using the beep collar to train your dog is that it has proved faster and more effective than other trainers. They also can help your dog work faster once it has learned what the beeps mean.

    Using the Collars

    • Introduce your bird dog to training collars with beepers gradually. The beepers are loud and it's recommended that you give your dog time to learn the sounds and get used to them. If your dogs are not accustomed to beeper, they can be afraid of it and won't make the connection between the beep and bird hunting.

It's advised that you take the dog to the field and allow him to get used to the sounds while you're controlling the volume. With time, he will learn the different beeping sounds and what they mean.
