How to Train My Pet Chihuahua to Stop Pooping on the Floor

Chihuahuas are adorable little dogs that can leave big messes on your carpet and flooring. It is not unusual for a Chihuahua dog or puppy to become accustomed to urinating outdoors and defecating indoors. If you have a Chihuahua who can't seem to empty his bowels on your lawn, there are ways to ensure that your home's flooring is safe from the stains and smell of feces once and for all.

Instructions

    • 1

Discipline the puppy right when you notice it has defecated in the house with a stern "No." Do not wait until the puppy has walked away from the mess or it will not associate the reprimand with the unwanted behavior.

    • 2

Avoid rubbing the dog's nose it the fecal mess. The dog will only become frightened and it will not associate this form of discipline with the unwanted act.

    • 3

Clean up any fecal mess right after it has occurred. If the puppy can smell the mess it will begin to use that same area over and over again to potty.

    • 4

Take the puppy outside right away in the morning, right after meals and right after naptime. The puppy is more likely to feel the urge to defecate during these times and will perform the act outdoors.

    • 5

Purchase a crate for the puppy to sleep in and spend its time in when you are not at home. The puppy will not defecate where it sleeps, and keeping it confined in a small area will cut down on the likelihood of the puppy having an accident at night.

    • 6

Offer the puppy a treat when it does potty outdoors. The puppy will be more willing to defecate outdoors if there is the possibility of a treat afterward.
