How to House Train a Dog Fast

As with anything you teach a dog, it takes time and patience to house train him. House training a dog fast is similar to house training a puppy. Dogs like to have a clean area to live and sleep in, so if the area they sleep in is clean they are more likely to keep it that way.

Help your dog remain on a steady bathroom schedule by feeding him and giving him water at the same time each day. Dogs use the bathroom after eating or drinking, so keep an eye on your dog when he eats. Then, take him outside and allow him plenty of time to walk around. Whether you use a leash or allow your dog to run, keep an eye on him to see when he is finished using the bathroom.

Praise your dog when he does his job outside. When he learns that you expect him to use the bathroom outside, he will work to please you. If he has an accident inside, say "no" firmly and then take him back outside. When house training a dog, do not whip him or rub his nose in the accident.

Use a crate as a place for your dog to sleep at night. A dog does not like to have a messy place to sleep and will usually hold it until the morning. Take him outside first thing in the morning.

Stop your dog's intake of water after 7:00 p.m. Then, take him outside before you put him in his crate. Do not change the type or brand of food; it can cause him to have an upset stomach and have accidents. Also, avoid changing his water source.

Watch for your dog to sniff the floor. When he is looking for a place to use the bathroom, he will put his nose to the floor and smell. Take him outside before he has a chance to have an accident.
