How to Blow a Silent Dog Whistle

Silent dog whistles are used for training, especially with hunting dogs. The whistle is made so the decibels produced cannot be heard by the human ear. Dog's ears are more sensitive to higher decibels and can hear and react to these sounds. In training a dog to hunt, the hunter needs a tool that does not carry sound to warn prey and the silent dog whistle is the perfect product. Blowing into the whistle, and creating different whistle bursts, help to train your dog effectively.

Place the opening of the silent dog whistle in your mouth and blow short bursts of air into the whistle. Have your dog within viewing distance to see if he can hear the whistle.

    • 2

Turn the screw mechanism on the whistle as you blow short bursts into it. The mechanism adjusts the frequency of decibels the whistle creates. Watch your dog and see how he reacts to each turn of the screw and blow of the whistle. Stop blowing the whistle and turning the screw frequency when you find your dog reacts by whining or cocking his head to the whistle blowing.

Blow a long whistle blast when your dog is at a distance from you. With wind conditions, the sound may get carried away from your dog. Take a deep breath and continue blowing into the whistle until you have your dog's attention.
