Instructions
Designate an area in the home or outside the where you expect the puppies to go to the bathroom. Take the puppies out every two to three hours, as they have smaller bladders than adult dogs and require training to hold their bladders for a longer time. Place puppy pads inside the home near the door for young puppies and to prevent accidents from occurring because you could not take the puppies out in time.
Prepare an outside spot by spraying attractant spray onto the outdoor potty places every day. Spraying everyday will keep the scent on the ground and continue to attract the puppies when they are out for walks.
Praise and treat the puppies when they go potty outside. The puppies judge from the pitch and tone of your voice and understand that high pitches of praise mean they have done something correctly. Praising and treats will encourage the puppies to continue the behaviors they know result in rewards. Use praise and rewards to encourage good behaviors like going outdoors, chewing on toys and scratching at the door to alert you they need out.
Scold the puppies when they go potty indoors, bark, chew on non-food and non-toy items or otherwise misbehave. Say "no" in a deep and serious tone and smack a rolled up newspaper against your hand or leg. The loud noise will scare the puppies, and they will avoid the behaviors again. Place misbehaving puppies into separate crates as part of their punishment.
Be prepared to crate the other puppies to work with one puppy at a time for a few hours each day. One-on-one time with each puppy will focus the puppy's attention on you, instead of the other puppies and make the training more effective.
