Things You'll Need
- Dog treats
Instructions
Lay your puppy down on its side to start.
Show your puppy a treat. Hold the treat right in front of the puppy's face, but do not allow it to eat the treat. Use soft treats for training sessions, as puppies generally prefer these over dry biscuits.
Move the treat toward either of the Corgi's front legs and wait for its head to move in that direction.
Slide the treat down toward the puppy's belly before it has a chance to stand up.
Say "roll over" as you continue moving the treat over the Corgi's midsection, then watch for the puppy to roll over in an attempt to obtain the treat.
Give your Corgi the treat. If the puppy successfully rolls over, reward it immediately. However, if the puppy does not roll over, repeat the process, but save the treats only for times when the puppy actually does roll over. Do not give in and reward your Corgi for unsuccessful attempts.
Practice for five minutes. Keep training sessions short since a puppy's attention span is short. Repeat the "roll over" process several times during a session and eventually your Corgi will catch on. Once the puppy has the command down, wean treats away until you no longer need to use them, but always give the puppy great praise when it performs the trick correctly.
