Things You'll Need
- Dog crate
Instructions
Keep your dog in a crate at night, while you are away from home and anytime you cannot keep an eye on the puppy while at home. Your puppy will generally not void where he sleeps, but cannot be left in the crate for an extended period of time.
Watch for signs that your puppy has to void and immediately take him outside. Your dog may begin sniffing the floor, staring or scratching at the door or make circles when it is time to potty.
Take your dog outside at around the same time each day. Your puppy will become used to this routine and will void accordingly. This routine should include stepping outside with your puppy after naps, meals, first thing in the morning and right before bed.
Praise your dog whenever he voids outdoors. Saying ̶0;good doggy̶1; said in a deep voice will go a long way to stopping accidents in the house.
Clean up your puppy's mess immediately after he has an accident in the home. The smell of the urine will attract your puppy to void in the same place in your home on a regular basis.
Avoid yelling at your dog if he has an accident inside.
