Instructions
Place the citrus spray collar on a table so that the fill port is facing up. Turn the citrus spray re-filler can upside down, and press its nozzle into the fill port for 15 seconds.
Test the device by blowing into the microphone at the top of the unit. It should release a fine mist of lemon-scented oil into the air.
Attach the collar to your dog with both the spray nozzle and microphone facing upward. You should be able to fit two fingers between your dog's neck and the collar to ensure a snug yet comfortable fit.
Reward your dog when he stops barking with a pet and a consistent praising phrase like "good quiet." Your dog will begin to associate barking with the unpleasant lemon aroma and stopping barking with your praise.
Remove the collar at bedtime or when you will be tending to your dog. When the collar is not on, continue to reinforce good behavior. If the collar is worn for too long, your dog will begin to become desensitized to the spray.
Periodically refill the citrus spray collar. If the reservoir runs out of citrus spray and the device does not release a mist when your dog barks, your dog will be taught that, with perseverance, he may continue to bark and avoid the undesirable consequences.
How to Stop a Dog From Barking With Citrus Spray
Citrus spray dog collars are made by a number of manufacturers and are a way for pet owners to train their dogs to stop barking. The dog collar releases a fine mist of lemon scent when it detects the sound of a dog's bark. Because dogs find the scent unpleasant, the collar creates a negative association in the dog's mind between his bark and the scent. The spray is not harmful or painful to the dog̵2;unlike shock collars, which work by the same principle̵2;so they are a safe and humane way to train your dog to stop barking.
