How to Build a Rabbit Pen for Training Beagles

Raising a beagle puppy can be a lot of work. After a day of playing and training, you might want your beagle to rest or be kept supervised in a pen. A rabbit pen is the perfect size for training a beagle puppy -- you can easily build one that you can transport indoors or to an outdoor location.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the roll of woven wire that is 20 feet long by 3 feet wide. Start on one side, making a mark with the writing utensil every 5 feet, ending with four equally sized pieces that are 3 feet tall by 5 feet wide. There are two ways to shape the cage: if possible, bend the woven wire with your hands in gloves and create the cage corners; or use the wire cutters to cut apart each of the four pieces of woven wire, which will be the walls of the cage. Working carefully and slowly, use the soldering iron to solder each of the sides of the wire cage together.

Secure the sheet of plywood on the bottom of the cage and fit it down into the edges and corners. This protects the beagle's sensitive padded feet from the woven wire. Create a potty training area by adding a small container or box filled with puppy litter or fake "turf" (available at pet stores) in a corner. Make sure to clean it at least once a day.

Place newspaper shreds, straw, old soft towels or some type of bedding on top of the plywood floor to create a comfortable sleeping area for the puppy. Add food, water bowls and some treats. Provide chewing toys. Place the beagle puppy in the pen to help train him to sleep at certain times, potty train and eat.
