Traveling with a dog can be frustrating. This is because dogs often get bored and adventurous when they are confined to a small area, even if they are not normally this way. When traveling with a dog in the back seat of a truck, the dog might want to try climbing out of the slider window at the back of the cab. This can be dangerous to both the driver and the dog, so it is a good idea to prevent your dog from doing this at all times.
Instructions
Give the dog something to do while in the back of the cab. Giving your dog rawhide or a bone to chew on can divert its attention from trying to get out through the slider window. As long as the dog has something tasty or fun to chew on, you should not have much trouble keeping it busy.
Discipline your dog immediately if it tries to get out of the slider window. If you are driving and cannot physically discipline him, simply growl or speak to him in a low voice. The dog needs to know right away that what it is doing is not all right, so keep your eye on it at all times. If you are not driving, simply grab the scruff of its neck and pull it down, again speaking to it in a low voice to establish dominance.
Reward your dog if it goes for a long time without trying to get out of the window. Even if the dog is not aware of what exactly it is being praised or rewarded for, it will still associate that trip with something that it did right. Above all, most dogs want to please their owners, so letting your dog know that you are pleased will go a long way.
