Nobody wants to come home to little puddles of urine on their floor or spraying marks on their furniture. Having a pet often involves dealing with marking behavior. Animals are territorial and use small amounts of urine to "mark" areas as their own. A young pet or even an older one left alone can become upset and show its discomfort by marking on the furniture or floor. Luckily there are measures a pet owner can employ to help stop marking behavior.
Instructions
Remove all traces of urine odor from areas where your pet has previously marked. This will help ensure that the animal will not return to the spot and mark it again.
Spay and neuter your pets to help control marking behavior. A spayed or neutered pet is less likely to mark in the house.
Watch your pet closely but unobtrusively to attempt to catch it exhibiting marking behavior. When it marks something, verbally express your displeasure and take your pet outside to remind it of acceptable marking spots.
Crate your animal when you are away from home or anytime you cannot supervise it. This will help prevent it from marking throughout the house.
