How to Get Pet Urine Smells Out of Carpets

Face it, all pets will have an accident inside the home at least once in its life. However, ordinary household items can help to get rid of the stains, and send a message to your pet not to piddle there anymore.

Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Liquid dish washing detergent
  • 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
  • Water
  • Rubber gloves
  • Paper towels

      Attempt to soak up the area with paper towels if the area is still wet. Repeat until no more urine comes up.

      Mix a solution of 50 percent white vinegar and 50 percent water. Use a liberal amount of solution to reach the carpet fibers deep down. Work solution in with a scrubbing brush to ensure it penetrates the fibers below. Blot the area again with the paper towel method in the first step. Use a wet and dry vacuum to remove excess moisture, if one is handy.

      Sprinkle a good amount of baking soda over the soiled area when the area has dried or almost dried. Mix half a cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of the detergent. Do no use caustic dishwasher detergent. Put on gloves and slowly pour the hydrogen peroxide mixture over the baking soda. Work the dissolving baking soda well into the carpet with the scrubbing brush.

      Allow the area to dry completely and then vacuum thoroughly.
