Handle your Schnauzer puppy often to acclimate him to a human's touch and voice. Say his name often, so that he learns it quickly. He should look you in the face when you say his name. Learn how to get his attention quickly.
Rub down your Schnauzer puppy and groom him gently with a brush to get him used to being handled. Feed him treats while you groom him. Schnauzers require a lot of "hair care" so you need to make him comfortable with human touch.
Walk your Schnauzer puppy on a leash, making sure to keep some tension on the leash. When he begins to stray from your side or wander around, pull him close to your leg and say "heel" in a firm voice. Do not shout or repeat yourself. Schnauzers will respond best to someone who acts as an "Alpha Dog."
Teach him sit by saying his name followed by "sit." Push his hind legs down at the same time, so he begins to understand what to do. Praise him by feeding him a treat or a pat on the head. Schnauzers love to please their human owners and love attention.
Ignore your Schnauzer if he is trying to act badly to get attention. Say "no" once in a firm voice, then do not make eye contact. Schnauzers thrive on human attention and when you take it away, he will likely stop his negative behavior.
