Many Americans are proud owners of both cats and dogs. One unfortunate problem for some owners of both animals is that sometimes their dog eats the cat̵7;s litter. Many people believe this is caused by a deficiency in the dog̵7;s food, but the real reason may be that the dog just enjoy the taste of the litter. There are ways to stop your dog from continuing this unpleasant habit.
Things You'll Need
- Covered cat litter box
- Garbage can
- Baby gate
- Clumping cat litter
- Dog treats
Instructions
Purchase a covered cat litter box. If your dog cannot smell the cat litter and feces he will be less attracted to the area.
Clean the litter box out every day. Dispose of the waste immediately so the dog does not attempt to eat the litter from the garbage can.
Place the litter box in a room that is inaccessible to the dog, such as a bathroom, or on a tall shelf that the dog is unable to reach.
Put up a baby gate or any other barrier in the doorway to the room that contains the litter box.
Purchase cat litter that is specially formulated to control odors. Several brands contain special clumping materials and crystals that absorb odor.
Reward your dog with a treat and praise him if he moves toward the litter box but does not consume any feces if told to stop.
