Maltipoos, a combination of maltese and poodles, are one of the most popular "designer breeds." They are very cute, equally as smart and love attention. Maltipoo puppies are eager to please, therefore they are very receptive to training. Teaching your Maltipoo puppy manners at a young age will help her to become a well-behaved, obedient adult.
Things You'll Need
- Small treats
Instructions
Train your Maltipoo puppy by following a command, response and reward pattern. For instance, if you want to train her to sit, give the command to sit by saying "sit," hold the treat above her so that she falls on her behind to see it, then give her a treat as the reward. Consistently following this routine will help to train her faster.
Train your Maltipoo puppy in short sessions--in the beginning--then gradually increase the length as your puppy ages. Puppies have short attention spans and will not be able to focus for too long. Your Maltipoo puppy will only be able to concentrate on one trick for a few times, then she will become bored and will not pay attention to what you are teaching her. Play with her and let her rest between sessions to give her a break and as a means of rewarding her.
Correct your Maltipoo puppy when she doesn't do as you ask, such as getting up when she should sit or when she should stay put. Let her know you are disappointed by saying "oops," refrain from giving her the treat, then correct her behavior. By not giving her the reward, she will learn that she didn't do as she was asked and will not be rewarded when she disobeys.
Take your Maltipoo puppy outside to continue training once she has learned to obey inside. There are lots of distractions in the great outdoors and your Maltipoo needs to learn not to pay attention to them while she should be listening to you. Start with places that aren't too busy, working your way up to more crowded and noisy areas.
