How to potty train your adult dog
The first step toward stopping your dog from urinating on the bed is to determine why he's doing it. Does he have separation anxiety? Does your pet have trouble holding it? Is your dog submissive? Unneutered? There are dozens of reasons your dog could be peeing on the bed, including illness, and as the owner it's your job to figure out why.
Manage your sleeping arrangements. Prevent your dog from sleeping on your bed. Do whatever it takes: close your bedroom door, put up a baby gate, or crate your pet at night. If there is no access to the bedroom, there will be no accidents on the bed.
Let your pet out once before bedtime, but restrict water after that. This includes monitoring your bathrooms: A few late-night toilet sips could lead to accidents.
If accidents still happen at night, consider crating your dog. A crate is not cruel and acts as a "den" or place where your pet can feel safe. Most dogs won't urinate in their den. Crating prevents accidents because you control where and when your dog urinates. Just be sure to let your dog outside first thing in the morning.
Praise your dog immediately when he goes in the proper spot. Do this with words, treats, and plenty of love so he knows he's doing well.
