An Innotek underground dog fence is a fencing system that keeps your dog confined to an area that is surrounded by underground wiring. The wiring is connected to a radio transmitter that emits a radio frequency. When your dog is wearing an Innotek dog fence collar and tries to cross the underground wiring, the collar emits a warning tone. If the dog keeps trying to cross the boundary, he will receive an electrical shock. An Innotek fence is a cost-effective alternative to traditional fencing, and you can even install it yourself.
Instructions
Call your local utility companies and tell them you are planning a dig. Each company will come out and mark its underground utility lines. Some companies can take some time getting to you, so plan ahead and call early.
Plan your Innotek fence installation on paper. Sketch your yard and mark the area that you want to keep your dog inside. Plot the fence perimeter around the dog confinement area. It should not cross any utility lines if possible. If it is impossible to avoid a utility line, it should run perpendicular to it.
Screw a radio transmitter into an exterior wall. The location you choose should be in a weatherproof area that has easy access to the dog confinement area and an electrical outlet. Most people choose garages, basements or carports.
Lay your dog fence wiring out on the ground along the fence perimeter that you designed in Step 2. Do not try to install it underground until you have verified that the Innotek fence is working the way you want it to work.
Connect the dog fence wiring to the radio transmitter by splicing it to the two twisted wires that extend from the radio transmitter. Use the waterproof splices that came with your Innotek fence. Plug the radio transmitter into an electrical socket and turn it on. If the radio transmitter's green light comes on, you have successfully completed the circuit.
Charge the Innotek fence collar. Plug the wall charger into an electrical outlet and position the collar into the wall charger. When the indicator light on the collar is red, it is charging; when it is green, the collar is charged. Wait until the Innotek fence collar is fully charged before proceeding.
Test that the Innotek fence and collar are working together. Your Innotek fence comes with a test light to make sure that the electric shock is working without having to shock yourself. Hold the test light across the skin contacts on the Innotek fence collar. Walk toward the fence wiring that you have lain out. As you get closer to the fence wiring, the collar should emit a warning tone and then the test light should light up to indicate an electric shock is being emitted.
Bury the fencing wiring after you have determined that the Innotek fence is working the way you want it to work. Dig a trench along the fence perimeter about three inches deep with a straight-edged spade or an edger. Try to dig the fence perimeter at an angle to keep the fence wiring from coming out of the ground. When you are done installing the fence wiring, place the white training flags to mark the boundary where the warning tone will be emitted from your pet's collar. This will serve as a visual reminder of the safe zone to both you and the dog.
