Having the proper stain removal product for pet stains is essential when pets are allowed access to carpets and home furnishings. Always begin by removing any substances that can be picked up before applying home remedies.

Start With Club Soda

Use club soda by pouring it directly from the bottle on to the pet stain. Blot the club soda from the stain using a clean paper towel and repeat to remove as much stain as possible. Blot, do not rub, the stain until clear liquid is all that appears on the paper towel. If club soda is not available, use cold water. Choose a plain club soda for pet stain removal. Flavored club sodas may have coloring or additives that could cause the stain to embed in the carpet fibers or further the problem.
Lift With White Vinegar

Blotting with club soda or cold water may not be enough to remove many pet stains. Mix a one to one solution (meaning equal amounts, for example 1 pint of vinegar to 1 pint of warm water) of white vinegar and warm water. Keep the mixture in a clean spray bottle with the ingredients clearly written on the bottle. Spray the pet stain and blot with a clean paper towel. Having this mixture pre-made and ready for emergencies could save carpet from deep staining. The vinegar will also cut the odor that accompanies pet stains.
Deodorize With Baking Soda

Lower the chance that a pet will return to the same spot over and over by deodorizing the carpet after the stain is cleaned up. Allow the area to dry fully then sprinkle a layer of baking soda on to the carpet. Leave the baking soda to absorb the pet stain smell for several hours---leaving it overnight is fine. Vacuum the baking soda away to remove the home remedy---baking soda won't harm the vacuum cleaner.
Add Mild Dish Liquid

For very stubborn pet stains, add a few drops of a mild dish detergent into the vinegar and water mixture mentioned above. Put the detergent in the spray bottle first then add the liquid. Spray the stain and then blot up the moisture---no rubbing is necessary---and repeat until the stain color disappears. Keep both spray bottles (the one with the detergent and the one without) handy and use the one with no detergent to blot away the soap in the final stages of the stain removal.
