How to Crate Train Dachshunds

It's very easy to train dachshunds to sleep in a crate at night, and when you are away. This is not only the best way to potty train dachshunds, but it provides them with a comfortable place where they feel safe. Once you get your dog used to the crate, he will go into it any time you ask.

Instructions

Start crate training as soon as you bring your dog home. Whether it is a puppy or an older dog, you can train her to go into a crate without too much fuss. When you bring the dog home, place her into the crate with a chew toy. Leave her in the crate until it is time to go potty.

When potty training, only let your dog out of the crate when you will have eye contact with him at all times. If you leave the room, put the dog back in the crate.

    • 3

Remove your dog from the crate and immediately take her outside to use the potty. Once he is done, put the dog back in the crate. As time passes, the dog will learn that if he wants out of the crate, he must go outside to use the bathroom. This type of potty training should be accomplished in as little as two weeks.

Place toys in the crate to create a safe place for your dog. After potty training is accomplished, train your dog to spend nights in the crate. When you are home, let her out of the crate. Every time you put your dog in the crate, tell her "kennel" or "crate," so she learns the command.

Leave the crate door open so your dog can come and go as he pleases during the day. You want this to be their bed and safe place. In order for them to feel this is a good place to be, they should have access to it at all times.
