Why would a Pet Safe dog collar go off in the house?

A few reasons could cause your PetSafe dog collar to go off in the house.

Static Electricity: Static electricity is a phenomenon commonly experienced when rubbing fabrics or materials together. If the collar's outer metal contacts come into contact with a surface that has a considerable static charge, the resulting discharge may trigger the collar. Make sure your dog is not interacting with objects likely to create static electricity.

Radio Interference: Sometimes, radio interference from other devices can disrupt the proper function of electronic pet collars. Common culprits include cordless phones, Wi-Fi routers, baby monitors, and other devices emitting strong radio signals. Ensure these devices are at least three feet away from the dog collar. If the interference persists, try temporarily turning off these devices or moving them further away to prevent interference.

Electrical Equipment: Certain types of electrical equipment can generate magnetic fields that may affect the operation of your dog collar. Common examples include televisions, computers, radios, and fluorescent light fixtures. Similar to the previously mentioned radio interference, try moving the dog collar away from such equipment or temporarily turning them off to eliminate possible disruptions.

Loose Collar Strap: A collar that is too loose can cause the electrodes to have inconsistent or intermittent contact with the dog's skin. Check the collar to ensure it fits snugly, allowing only one-to-two fingers to comfortably fit between the strap and the dog's neck. This ensures proper contact and functioning of the collar.

Battery Issues: Low or dead batteries can lead to intermittent or unexpected collar behaviors, such as random activations. Regularly monitor battery levels and replace the battery as soon as it shows signs of depletion to avoid any unexpected collar behavior.

Electrical Noise: Household appliances, such as light dimmers, power tools, or electronic devices, can potentially create electrical noise that may interfere with the collar's functionality. Move the dog collar away from such sources of noise or consider turning them off temporarily.

If none of the above factors seem to be causing the problem, or if the collar is functioning sporadically, it's best to contact PetSafe customer support or refer to the user manual for troubleshooting guidance specific to your collar model.
