Are privet trees toxic to dogs?
All parts of privet (Ligustrum spp.) are considered toxic to dogs, though the berries in particular are the most dangerous. The privet plant contains a toxin called ligustrin, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and potentially more serious side effects such as muscle weakness, convulsions, and even death if ingested in large quantities. The berries contain the highest concentration of ligustrin and are the most likely to cause poisoning.
