Why do African wild dogs live in the desert?

African wild dogs do not live in the deserts. They are found in open grasslands, savannas, and woodlands across sub-Saharan Africa.

While they can tolerate some arid environments, deserts are generally too harsh for them to survive in. They need access to:

* Water: Deserts often lack reliable sources of water, which is crucial for African wild dogs.

* Prey: Wild dogs are highly specialized hunters that rely on large herds of prey animals like zebras and wildebeest, which are not typically found in deserts.

* Shelter: The extreme heat and lack of vegetation in deserts make it difficult for wild dogs to find suitable shelter.

Therefore, African wild dogs are primarily found in areas with adequate rainfall, abundant prey, and suitable habitat, not in deserts.
