Why do dogs have only 4 nails?

Dogs actually have more than four nails!

They typically have five nails on each paw, with the fifth one being located higher up on the inside of the paw and called the dewclaw.

* Dewclaws are often considered vestigial, meaning they've lost their original function over time. In some breeds, dewclaws are functional and used for balance and grip.

* Front paws usually have a dewclaw, while back paws may or may not have one, depending on the breed.

So, the statement about dogs having only four nails is inaccurate.
