Why do dachshunds have webbed feet?

Dachshunds do not have webbed feet.

Webbed feet are an adaptation for swimming, which is not a primary activity for dachshunds. Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers in burrows, and their long, low bodies and short legs are ideal for navigating tight spaces.

However, dachshunds do have some unique features in their paws:

* Larger, more prominent pads: This helps provide better traction and grip on uneven terrain, which is essential for hunting in burrows.

* Strong nails: These are useful for digging and gripping prey.

While not webbed, dachshunds can be surprisingly good swimmers if they have the opportunity to learn. Their long, low bodies create less drag in the water than other dog breeds.
