Instructions
Select appropriate breeding stock and make sure that your female miniature schnauzer is ready and appropriate for breeding. A female dog should be at least 1.5 years of age before her first breeding. Using a purebred, black and silver miniature schnauzer ensures the creation of quality offspring.
Take your miniature schnauzer to the vet to have a prebreeding checkup. In order to ensure the health of both your dog and her pups, she must be up to date on all vaccines prior to breeding and should be checked for general health and the ability to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Continuing veterinary care throughout breeding, pregnancy and whelping is imperative for the health of your bitch and her pups.
Select an appropriate stud to breed to and watch for signs that your female dog is in heat. Signs of heat start with a clear type of discharge from her vagina, which will turn darker as she moves farther into heat. Optimal breeding time is 10 to 14 days into color discharge. Your bitch is ready to breed when she starts flagging; she will raise her tail and move it to the side. When this occurs, take your dog to the stud for breeding.
Put the dogs together for 20 to 40 minutes at a time for breeding to occur. Take your dog home and prepare for her pregnancy.
