First, look for signs that tell you that your dog is close to going into labor. Your dog may become moody and begin to lick her bottom more than usual.

    • 2

Get her to a quiet place and lay down plenty of blankets and newspapers, since things will get messy once she delivers.

    • 3

Lay your dog down on the blankets and talk calmly to her. Your calm voice will keep her feeling peaceful.

    • 4

Once your dog starts to push her puppies out she will do most of the work on her own. Most likely she will clean them off. If she doesn't, then take a warm dry rag and wipe them down.

    • 5

Watch your dog so she doesn't roll over on her newborn puppies while she is delivering the rest of the litter.

    • 6

Make sure your dog starts to nurse her puppies immediately after they are born. If she doesn't, simply place the puppies close to her nipples so they can begin to nurse.
