Painting With Dog's Paws

Dogs possess a keen eye for treats and chew toys, but your canine pet also can help with crafts, such as painting projects. If designing a large mural about your pet or you just want to see your pup play with paint, set up a painting area in a large space. You can also use paints that are friendly to animals and monitor your dog while creating the art to prevent any accidental licking or tasting of the paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a large piece of drawing paper or butcher paper outside on the ground. Lay the paper flat. If planning to do this craft indoors, cover a large area with newspaper around the paper. Another idea is to use fabric, such as a white, cotton canvas apron.

    • 2

Set up bowls of paint with watercolor, non-toxic acrylic paints, vegetable dye or other paint suitable for use with dogs. Pick a variety of colors to work with or create shades of one color with white and black paints. On a high-top table, set up a cloth and water bucket to clean your dog's paws.

    • 3

Lead your dog in the painting process by dipping its paw in the paint. Touch the paw to the paper to show your dog how it works. Dip another paw in paint and walk the dog around the paper.

    • 4

Dip your dog's paws in two different colors to make a multi-colored design. Wash the paint off of its paws to make a separate design in a new color.

    • 5

Create a mural of different paw prints in the center of the paper by holding your dog's paw and using multiple paint colors. When dry, cut out the mural and paint the dog's name in the center. Display his work by a food bowl or on the refrigerator.

    • 6

Walk your dog diagonally across fabrics like a white apron or T-shirt to create a paw trail. Paint a few dog bones along the edge of the puppy trail and add the pooch's name to the top of the apron.

    • 7

Create a design with masking tape or painter's tape on a white board. Walk your dog over the area with his paws covered in paint or touch his paws to the design. Once dry, peel off the tape to reveal your finished design.
