How to Turn Your Closet Into a Bedroom for a Dog

Many dogs enjoy spaces of their own just like you do. An unused space in the house, such as a closet, can be turned into a designated pet area for your dog. Create enough space for him to sleep, eat, stand up and walk around. A designated pet area allows him to get away from a noisy household and relax.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the items from the closet, including clothes, shoes and toys. Vacuum the floor to get rid of choking hazards.

    • 2

Install a pet door in the closet door or get rid of the closet door completely. If you choose to keep the door, check to see if the closet has adequate ventilation, so the dog doesn't get overheated.

    • 3

Put your dog's bed on one side of the closet. Add a small pillow and blanket on his bed to ensure he is comfortable.

    • 4

Place his toys on the other side of the closet, so he has space to play.

    • 5

Set his food and water dishes against a wall. Place a mat under the dishes to catch any spills.
