How to Make Sweaters Out of Socks for Dogs

Whether you're looking to give your small dog comfort or style, dog sweaters made out of socks are an easy way to go. For some smaller breeds of dog with short hair or no fur such as the American Hairless Terrier or breeds of Chihuahua, sweater socks may greatly improve a dog's warmth on strolls or bathroom breaks during the fall and winter months.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the sock flat so that it fully extends into its natural shape J-shape.

    • 2

Cut a hole beneath the bottom or toe of the sock, making it below the seam so that the material widens. Cut farther down depending upon the length of the dog and the sock. The dog's head will come out of this end.

    • 3

Fold the heel of the sock inward towards the J-shape intersect that separates the lower and upper halves of the sock.

    • 4

Cut a small hole through the folded heel. This cut should go through both layers of the sock, serving as a hole for both of the dog's feet. The circumference of the hole will depend on the width of the dog's feet.

Place the sweater on the dog and observe the tightness of the fit.
