Attitude
-
French Bulldogs are gentle, especially with children. The two go well together if the child is taught how to respect a dog and not overwhelm it. A French Bulldog will also shy away from children who are timid of the dog. These dogs aim to please their owners in any way possible. One way they achieve this is through affection such as cuddles and kisses.
Energy
-
Energetic children will not be a problem with French Bulldogs who release an abundance of energy. Children who love to run and play outside are compatible with French Bulldogs because they can run right alongside the children. These dogs are also loving and will cuddle up right next to the child when both are ready for a nap.
Strangers
-
French Bulldogs do not take well to strangers because they are protective of their family. This is true even of small children, so any friends should be introduced to the French Bulldog in a gentle manner. Approach the dog with a hand to smell and rub on their stomach where they can see your hand.
Size
-
French Bulldogs are an appropriate size for families with children because they are mid-sized dogs. Children will not be intimidated by their size and they are easier to control than larger dogs. Though French Bulldogs are small, they are heavy. Children should not pick them up because they can be dropped easily. These dogs are best for families who live in flats or apartments as well because they will not take up as much space as a larger dog.

French Bulldogs & Small Children
Before purchasing a dog for a family with small children, it's most important to get a dog that is good with children. French Bulldogs are compatible with children for a number of reasons, but mostly for their calm attitude. Having a French Bulldog as a playmate is a way to help both the dog and the child release energy.
