Shampoo your dog at least once a week to prevent fleas and parasites from infecting your dog's coat and skin. Use a store-bought oatmeal based shampoo. It is gentle to a dog's skin and leaves its coat shiny.

Pick out an old blanket that can be washed often. Place it on your bed where you would like the dog to lie. Dogs like consistency and should learn quickly that this is their blanket. Remove the blanket from the bed daily and wash a couple of times a week. This keeps odors from penetrating your bedding.

Purchase a store-bought odor spray like Febreeze or Lysol. Spray the blanket and your bedding where the blanket lies as often as you feel necessary.
