Make sure your Siberian husky gets plenty of exercise. Huskies are at their most destructive when they have no other way of expending their energy. They need plenty of exercise, which can be provided by a large fenced-in yard. Since Siberian huskies are larger dogs that have a reputation for being escape artists, any fence that you have around your yard should be at least 5 feet high. Taking your husky for a walk is a good idea, but you should always keep him on a leash. Huskies are curious as well as energetic, and they will quickly run away if they are kept without a leash.
Set up rules as soon as you bring your Siberian husky home and adhere to them without exception. If you want your husky to sleep in a dog bed, point it out on the first night and do not let the husky sleep on the furniture. Do not be afraid to scold your husky with a firm "NO!" when he does things he is not supposed to do, and reward him with treats when he follows the rules and obeys your commands. Training a Siberian husky and teaching him to follow the rules you set in place can be difficult, as Siberians are stubborn as well as intelligent.
Provide plenty of supervision. Siberian huskies are social pack animals that love people. They do not like to be left alone for long periods of time, and when they are left alone, they tend to become restless. This is when they may begin chewing on your furniture or digging holes in your yard. Show your Siberian husky plenty of attention, and keep in mind that he is not a one-person dog. Huskies like almost everybody, and they crave attention. Do not hesitate to give them the attention they need.
Be careful when letting a Siberian husky around smaller animals. Siberian huskies are natural hunters, and they love to chase smaller animals. This could be a serious problem if you have smaller pets, such as cats in the house. If you want to have both a Siberian husky and a cat live in the same household, your best bet is to raise the husky as a puppy, along with the cat, so that the two animals can get used to each other.
How to Control Excitement in Siberian Huskies
Siberian huskies are not for everyone. Although they are often very friendly and affectionate, they can also be very energetic. If they become too excited, they can be very destructive. An overly excited husky can chew furniture, dig holes in a yard, and do anything else that will expend some of their energy. They are also very stubborn, which makes them difficult to train. Despite their stubbornness, they are intelligent enough to be trained if you know how to keep them under control.
