Activities for a Siberian Husky

Siberian huskies are highly energetic dogs that require regular physical activity for energy release. It is important to involve your Siberian husky in activities so that your dog does not become bored, grow restless and start acting out in your home with pesky behaviors. Come up with activities that you and your husky can do together.
  1. Running

    • Historically, Siberian huskies were bred for pulling sleds and carts. Accordingly, this canine breed enjoys running. A physical activity for you and your Siberian husky to do is to go for a run. A daily run in the morning or evening, or both, can give your dog enough physical activity to last until the next day or evening. It also provides stimulation for your husky, and can be effective for socializing your dog around others.

    Obedience Training

    • Obedience training is a stimulating and engaging activity for your Siberian husky. In obedience training classes your dog will learn to lie down, roll over, jump up, sit, walk, stay and drop it. Group training classes socialize your husky so that it gets exposure to other dogs and humans. It is also very stimulating for your husky to interact with the obedience trainer, who gives the dogs a lot of attention. Obedience training is like exercise for dogs, so your husky may even feel worn out afterward.

    Agility Training

    • Agility training is a highly active training course that teaches dogs how to jump over objects, run through obstacle courses, crawl through tunnels and weave in and out of poles or cones. Agility training is a surefire way to give your Siberian husky the activity level that it needs to feel satisfied. You can pay for your husky to participate in a group agility lesson with a trainer, or you can set up your own agility training modules in your backyard if it is large enough.

    Sledding

    • If you live in a snowy climate, put your Siberian husky to work doing what it was bred for: sledding. You can sit on a sled and attach your husky to a harness in the front, and let your husky tug you along. This activity is a good idea if you have a wide open space of snow and your husky is very obedient. A defiant dog could run off with the sled and become a safety hazard to you.
