Walk-a-thon
-
A walk-a-thon is a fun way for pets and potential owners to get to know each other over a few hours time. It can also be used to raise money for the local shelter while increasing awareness of the plight of homeless pets. A course can extend over a few miles and conclude with a family celebration at the finish line. Vendors and local pet charities can offer information and free samples while encouraging participants to contribute to your cause.
Pets on Parade
-
Promote pet welfare at Halloween-time with a "Pets on Parade" event. Children and their family pets wear costumes and compete for best costume, best look-a-like and other similar awards. At the end of the parade, vendors can promote their pet-related products. Local veterinarians and pet stores are likely to participate. The event can raise awareness of homeless pets as well as much needed funds.
Wash-a-thon
-
During summer months, a car and or dog wash-a-thon can provide a much needed service and introduce people to those who work at the pet shelter. The event can highlight the importance of pet vaccinations and spay and neuter services. Make sure their are plenty of donation cans to support the local pet shelter or humane society.
Food Events
-
Bake sales, bar-b-que and chili competitions are another good way to raise money, particularly in rural areas. They can be easily paired with a pet adoption event sponsored by your local human society or pet shelter. Rent tables to pet food vendors, pet stores and local veterinarians. Charge an entry fee for the cooking competition and include a mile-long walk where potential pet owners can get to know a homeless pet they may consider adopting.

Pet Adoption Event Ideas
Fund raising for nonprofit ventures is difficult these days, and pet adoption events can be particularly challenging. These events are designed to pair homeless pets with suitable owners while raising awareness of pet health, spaying and neutering. Success depends on your location, resources, the number of volunteers and your community.
