Instructions
Put your dog's favorite blanket on the car seat where you would like it to sit. Place a stepping stool or doggy ramp at the door jamb. Leave the car door open and get your dog's favorite treats and toys, but hide them until you need to use them.
Put a leash on your dog. Act calmly and positively the entire time you're near your dog, otherwise, they will sense your stress and react negatively.
Walk your dog around your car a few times or until your dog seems more comfortable with the car. Be enthusiastic about going to the car and give the dog treats as you walk around the car to encourage calm behavior.
Walk your dog toward the open door. Place a handful of treats on the blanket and make sure the dog sees you doing this to encourage the dog to get in.
Hold the toy(s) in your hand and begin to play with your dog, if it still does not feel comfortable about getting in. Open the door on the opposite side and try to lure it in the car from the other side with more treats, praise and toys. Try to make it a game by chasing the dog towards the open door. If it still does not feel comfortable, you may need to load the dog in a kennel and load the kennel in the car.
