1
Find a location where you can hold your dog contest. Since animals are involved, this may mean excluding certain local halls and finding an outdoor location.
-
2
Decide what type of dog contest it will be. There are a variety of different dog contests that are held every year, including cutest, ugliest, most talented and most obedient. Each type of contest has its own set of rules and criteria for judging, so it's best to get this in place early.
-
3
Put together a judging committee. The judges decide the rules ahead of time and are responsible for choosing the winner on the big day. In order to avoid conflict on the day of the contest, create a judging committee with an odd number of people so that there are no tied scores.
-
4
Gather together the prizes for the winning dogs. Approach local pet stores when compiling your prizes. In exchange for advertising in fliers and at the event, you may be able to get some donated prizes, which will cut down on the costs of running the event.
-
5
Design fliers to advertise the contest. Include the date, time and location of the contest along with any other information the contestants should know about. In order to make sure that you'll have enough participants on the day, include contact information so that people can reserve a spot in the contest ahead of time. Distribute them at veterinarian offices, pet stores and community centers at least a month beforehand.
-
6
Set up the venue on the day. The nature of the contest will determine just what needs setting up. A dog beauty contest requires a lot less set up than one that includes agility tests and tricks. You will need a table with entry forms for the dog owners to fill out. The entry form needs to ask for the dog's name, breed and owner's name so that the judges have this to refer to during the contest.
-
7
Run your events as planned and hand out awards to the winners.
