Instructions
Confine the puppies to a safe area of your home. It's likely that your chihuahua or Pomeranian puppies, depending on their age, fit in the palm of your hand. Because they are so little, they can get into tight spaces, such as under your couch or behind a fridge, and become scared and trapped. Thus, it's important to keep your tiny pooches confined to a safe area. This may be a large box with blankets or padding of some sort. You may also use a portable kennel.
Give your puppies the opportunity to go to the bathroom often. They will likely need to go every couple of hours, so either take them for brief, leashed walks outside on a regular schedule, or put them on a wee wee pad regularly. Wee wee pads come in various sizes. Choose the smallest size, as your tiny puppies don't need a lot of room.
Feed your chihuahua or Pomeranian puppies a high-quality dog food made for puppies. Additionally, look for a food made for small breeds, because your puppies' tiny mouths may not be able to handle kibble made for other, larger breeds.
Make sure your puppies have constant access to fresh water. Your puppies will need to drink often, so it's important that they have a bowl of water nearby at all times.
Provide your puppies with size-appropriate toys. Puppies learn through play, so it's important that your puppies have toys. Because they are so little, toys for other, larger breeds of dogs may be inappropriate. Look for small stuffed toys and balls that their tiny mouths will be able to grab.
Give your puppies a safe, warm and dry place to sleep. Don't invest in an expensive dog bed just yet, because young puppies are prone to bathroom accidents during the night. Remember to maintain their potty schedule through the night. As the puppies grow, you will be able to go longer periods without having to give them potty breaks.
Take your puppies to the veterinarian, who can determine whether they have any conditions requiring treatment, such as demodex, fleas or worms. Your puppies will also need to get their first round of shots, if they haven't already. Additionally, when the dogs are puppies it is the best time to neuter and spay.
