How to Transport a Dog in a Car

Many dogs love to go for car rides. They love to ride with their heads hanging out the window, lips flapping in the wind with saliva hitting the windshield of the car behind you. A dog that is not restrained in a car can become a deadly missile if you have to stop or turn suddenly, putting your dog, yourself and others at risk of injury. Always make sure your dog is securely and safely restrained in the car.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a cover on the back seat to protect it from drooling, vomiting or any other messes that could occur.

    • 2

Place your dog in the travel kennel.

You can also use either a dog car seat or a dog seat belt. Install the dog car seat or the dog seat belt in the back seat of the car according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 3

If your dog is in a kennel, thread the seat belt through the handle of the kennel and latch it to the other side of the seat belt.

If using a dog car seat, put a harness on your dog and secure it to the dog car seat with the straps in the seat.

If you use a dog seat belt, place a harness on your dog and attach the seat belt to the harness.

No matter what method you use to transport your dog, make sure the kennel, car seat or seat belt is latched securely by giving it a tug.
