How to Get Rid of Dog Urine in Hardwood Floors

You may be relieved that the dog did not wet the couch or your bed and just got the hardwood floor. Keep in mind, however, that urine can damage a hardwood floor and can leave an unpleasant odor if not cleaned up quickly. The longer it sits on floor, the more it seeps in to the hardwood and the more of a chance you will have to sand and refinish it.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe up the urine immediately with a dry old towel. Time is of the essence since the more the hardwood is exposed to the urine the more damage will be done.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda over the spot where the urine sat. The baking soda will soak up any excess liquid that may be within the hardwood. Use a generous amount of baking soda. Leave it sit overnight.

    • 3

Vacuum the baking soda the next morning. The baking soda will have soaked up the urine and eliminated the smell.

    • 4

Clean the floor as you normally would. The solution that you use depends on the type of floor you have.
