How to Give a Beagle Dog a Bath

The beagle is a breed of dog which routinely takes care of its own coat through self-cleaning. However, cleaning the dog's fur with an appropriate shampoo is a proactive approach to preventing the skin from drying out and protecting the coat from smell or dirt. Routine brushing of the dog's fur keeps the dog from shedding excessively around the home. However, bathing the dog at least three to four times a year is also recommended. Bathing a beagle is a task you can complete in less than 20 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush the fur on the beagle. If you suspect the beagle may have fleas, brush the hair from the tail toward the head upwards. This lifts the fur from the body of the dog and exposes skin for easier access.

    • 2

Place the drain screen into the drain and stand the beagle in the bathtub. Set the temperature to luke-warm, and pour water over the beagle using a cup. If you have a removable or hose nozzle on the bathtub, this works to access all of the dog's body. Soak the beagle completely with water and step back to avoid becoming soaked from the dog shaking.

    • 3

Fill the palm of your hand with dog shampoo and work it into the fur beginning around the head area. Massage shampoo into the fur with your fingertips in a circular motion, working the shampoo throughout the fur as you work your way toward the tip of the tail. Refill your palm one or two times as necessary to cover the entire body of the dog.

Rinse shampoo thoroughly from the beagle's fur. Pour on cups of clean water and massage the shampoo out of the fur using your fingertips.

    • 5

Dry the beagle thoroughly using a thick towel. Remove hair that has fallen off the beagle and caught in the drain screen.
